Creasy Spines

“Every crease is a story.”

Privacy policy

Plain English. Last updated 30 September 2026.

What we collect

  • Account details — your email, name, and optional username, bio, location and avatar.
  • Things you add — books on your shelf, ratings and reviews, finds, story logs, hunt lists, shop suggestions and uploaded photos.
  • Game progress — stored in your browser, and on your account if you sign in.
  • Basic technical data — IP address (used briefly for rate-limiting and abuse prevention) and a region guess to show prices in your currency.

Photos and locations

We strip EXIF metadata — including GPS coordinates — from every uploaded image. Locations you give us for finds and spine stories are rounded to roughly a kilometre before they are shown publicly. We never publish home addresses.

How we use it

To run the site, show your shelf and activity to the people you choose, send emails you’ve asked for (like The Daily Spine or hunt-list alerts) and keep the place free of spam. We do not sell your personal data.

Service providers

We use a small number of processors to operate: hosting, transactional email, and — for tools like Shelf Scan and Edition Detective — an AI vision provider that processes the photos you submit to that tool. Book data is fetched from Open Library. Outbound shop links may carry affiliate tags (see the disclosure).

Cookies

We use essential cookies for sign-in and your region preference, and local storage for your theme and game progress. No third-party advertising cookies.

Your choices

  • Edit or delete your content at any time from your shelf, profile and settings.
  • Unsubscribe from any email with one click.
  • Ask us for a copy of your data, or to delete your account, via the contact page.
