A lost family Bible returns to Westport’s history

By the Editors · As reported by Westport Journal

FoundWestport, Connecticut, United States

Tucked inside the Adair family Bible

On impulse, teenager Morgan Kofron bought an old Bible at the Pequot Library’s summer book sale. Inside, the inscription B. Adair and other family notes identified it as belonging to the Adairs, an Afro-Indigenous family who were among the few Black landowners in nineteenth-century Westport, Connecticut, and prominent there for three generations. The Bible will join the family’s papers at the Westport Museum for History and Culture, where a volunteer had earlier traced Adair descendants who placed their documents there for safekeeping.
