Reunited — it went back to its owner or their family.
Sorting a pile of old stock, Bishop Auckland bookseller Gordon Draper watched an envelope slip out of a book. Inside was a faded photograph of a woman with a little girl on her lap, and an undated letter to “Bethany (My tiny treasure)”, signed “Mam”.
The Northern Echo put the letter on its front page. Bethany Gash, then 21, read it on Facebook: her mother had died of cystic fibrosis in 1999 when she was four, and the book holding the letter had been given away by mistake during a house move. Draper delivered it to her by hand.
